Right and Proper Mourning: Heidi on Weaning

I think weaning is when we finally admit to ourselves that our baby is a baby no longer. They no longer have that baby smell or the insanely soft baby skin. They no longer drift off in your arms in the same way. I’ve found milestones even more poignant with my second knowing that I don’t plan to experience them again. I loved and love nursing, but all phases pass. It is right and proper to mourn, I think. We’ll always love our babies as babies, even when they are all grown up.
