Learning Ladders Encyclopedias
World Book
We discovered the Rainforest Animals volume of these “fact books” at our local library in a search for information about jaguars. (Thank you, Diego, for that particular interest.) Before long we’d checked out every volume the library owns and done a bit of research on where to find more. Then Old Pop (Ari’s grandfather, who chose that name himself) surprised us with the whole set!
Tessa is now an expert on Rainforest Animals, Animal Homes, Tough Trucks, On the Move, My Body, Under the Sea, Wild Animals, World of Dinosaurs, World of Insects and Weather.
These encyclopedias are perfect for preschoolers. Each two-page spread has beautiful pictures, lots of facts, and interesting tidbits. There are several pages that pull things together with big pictures (i.e. an open ocean scene, or a construction site), important vocabulary, and comprehension questions. There are puzzles, true/false questions, and multiple choice quizzes at the end of each book.
Tessa loves them, and I have finally learned the difference between a backhoe and a digger.
