Imminently Exciting: Joe on Impending Parenthood

Those last months leading up to those first births (and Natalie, in a sign of future behavior, jumped in front of the line and came first even though due dates were flipped) were just so… imminently exciting. The two of you at your Mom’s house “big pregnant” and all 4 of us not having any real idea of what to expect, but at the same time acknowledging that soon there was going to be a new generation upon us — two of them — made it seem easier in some ways, that we’d be confronting the same issues, the same joys, that the two children would always have a playmate at family gatherings (even little things like knowing your Mom would now have a high chair at her house!). Above all, it was comforting to know we weren’t about to embark on this new part of our life alone.
